When I was in middle school, we somehow found a series of books on cassette from a company in California called Jabberwocky.
We listened to Hans Christen Anderson (The Tinder Box), Edgar Allen Poe (Fall of the House of Usher), Oscar Wilde (The Nightingale and the Rose), and Lewis Carroll (Alice in Wonderland).
I still have my cassette copy of Alice in Wonderland, though I digitized it long ago with other audiobooks I loved a kid. It’s what inspired me to make my own audiobooks— the works of Jabberwocky were filled with great voice acting, incidental music, and immersive sound design.
I recently thought of them, and on a whim searched eBay — lo and behold, there was a pair of cassettes: Alice in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass!
I’ve never heard the latter, but it’s the same group of voice actors. Listening will bring just as much joy as the other.
