I recently designed the book cover for the second book in Tom Mooradian’s saga returning to the United States after repatriating to the Soviet Union in 1947.

The design focuses on the face of Tom, using elements of shadow to convey the claustrophobia of surveillance and torn edges signaling his severance from the US and himself.
The original scans of the articles were extremely low resolution, so I recreated them using illustrator and photoshop: a little magic with typography matching, texture, noise, and burning/dodging.
